Maruti Suzuki Escudo Hybrid SUV Launch Under ₹15 Lakh (See Launch Date)

With the festive season approaching, Maruti Suzuki, India’s biggest carmaker, is preparing to launch two new SUVs in the Indian market. The launches will be spaced out over the coming months.

The first launch will be a new five-seater midsize SUV, set to arrive on September 3, ahead of the launch of the e-Vitara.

Positioned Below the Grand Vitara

This new SUV will sit below the Grand Vitara in Maruti’s lineup. It will still come loaded with features and offer good value for money.

Unlike the Grand Vitara, which is sold through Nexa showrooms, the new SUV will be sold through Maruti’s Arena dealerships, showing its more mass-market focus.

Early details suggest it might be slightly longer than the Grand Vitara, giving it more road presence.

Targeted Pricing Strategy

Because it’s being sold through Arena, this SUV is expected to come with competitive pricing to appeal to a wider audience.

Maruti is clearly separating its SUV offerings to avoid overlap while attracting different customer groups.

Expected Name: Maruti Suzuki Escudo

The upcoming SUV is expected to be named the Maruti Suzuki Escudo.

It will likely feature Maruti’s 1.5-litre mild hybrid and 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engines, the same as the ones used in the Grand Vitara. A CNG version may also be offered later.

Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be available. The price is expected to range between ₹11 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom).

Focus on Efficiency and Ease of Ownership

By using the same mechanical components as other models, Maruti aims for cost efficiency and smooth production.

This will also help provide a familiar service and ownership experience for customers.

Competing in a Crowded Segment

Once launched, the Escudo will enter a highly competitive SUV segment, going up against:

Hyundai Creta

Kia Seltos

Mahindra Scorpio N

Toyota Hyryder

Honda Elevate
…and others.

Design, Interior, and Features

The Escudo will take design inspiration from both the e-Vitara and Grand Vitara. Test versions suggest it will have a spacious interior and a large boot, making it practical for families.

Key expected features include:

9-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Six airbags (standard)

Wireless phone charger

Semi-digital instrument cluster

Flat-bottom steering wheel

Multiple drive modes
