Mahindra & Mahindra has increased the price of its popular SUV, the Mahindra Thar, for the second time in 2026.
After a price hike in January, the latest increase—effective from April—has pushed prices up by up to ₹43,500, depending on the variant.
The move comes as the company deals with rising production and input costs.
Entry-Level Price Still Affordable
There’s some relief for budget buyers.
The base variant, AXT 1.5L diesel RWD, continues to start at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
This means the Thar still remains one of the more accessible off-road SUVs in India.
By keeping the entry-level price unchanged, Mahindra is ensuring that first-time buyers are not affected.
Bigger Hike for Premium Variants
The major price increase is seen in the higher-end models.
The top variant, 2.2L diesel 4WD automatic, now costs ₹17.62 lakh, after a hike of ₹43,500.
Other variants have also become more expensive:
Some models increased by around ₹30,500
Others saw hikes up to ₹41,500
This shows that Mahindra is focusing more on premium variants for price adjustments.
Selective Price Strategy Explained
Interestingly, not all variants are affected equally.
Mahindra has:
Kept base models unchanged
Increased prices mainly for LXT variants
This strategy helps:
Maintain affordability for new buyers
Improve margins on higher-end models
Facelift Version Coming Soon
The price hike comes just before a new update.
A facelifted version of the Mahindra Thar is expected soon, with possible upgrades like:
LED headlights and new DRLs
Redesigned bumpers
Bigger infotainment system
Ventilated seats
These changes could make the SUV more premium—and possibly more expensive.
What Buyers Should Do
Despite the price increase, the Thar remains a strong option in the lifestyle SUV segment.
However, with back-to-back price hikes and a facelift on the way, buyers may want to:
Consider booking soon
Avoid further price increases
Final Takeaway
The latest price hike by Mahindra & Mahindra reflects rising costs and a shift toward premium positioning.
While entry-level buyers are protected for now, higher variants are getting costlier—making timing an important factor for those planning to buy the Thar.
