Mumbai residents, already dealing with heavy rains, now face another challenge: inflation has led to increased costs for CNG and PNG.
Mahanagar Gas Limited has raised prices for both CNG and PNG. The price of CNG has been increased by Rs 1.50 per kg, while the price of PNG has been increased by Rs 1 per SCM.
The revised prices will take effect from tonight, resulting in increased expenses for both driving and cooking. This simultaneous increase in gas prices will impact people’s budgets.
What are the new rates
After this increase, Mumbai residents will now pay Rs 75 per kg for CNG, including taxes.
Additionally, domestic PNG will be priced at Rs 48 per SCM for people in Mumbai and its surrounding areas.
The company stated, Even after this revision, MGL’s CNG offers savings of approximately 50% and 17% respectively compared to current petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai.
MGL’s domestic PNG continues to provide unmatched convenience, safety, reliability, and environmental friendliness to consumers.
The company also highlighted that even with the slight increase, the prices of MGL’s CNG and domestic PNG remain among the lowest in the country.
Why increase the price
Mahanagar Gas stated, “To address rising demand in the CNG and domestic piped natural gas (PNG) sectors, and in response to reduced domestic gas allocations, we are procuring additional natural gas (imported LNG) at market prices. This has led to an increase in the cost of gas.”
CNG had become expensive in Delhi too
On June 22, Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the city gas licensee for the national capital and surrounding cities, increased the price of CNG in Delhi by Rs 1 per kg to Rs 75.09.
However, it did not change the rates for PNG, which remain at Rs 48.59 per scm.
