Aadhaar has become the most widely used identity document in India.
It is required for banking, SIM cards, hotel stays, government schemes, and digital payments.
However, repeatedly sharing Aadhaar photocopies and full personal details has increased the risk of data theft and fraud.
To address these concerns, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced new smart features in the mAadhaar app.
These updates give users better control over their personal data and reduce the need to share complete Aadhaar details during verification.
No Need to Share Full Aadhaar Details
One of the biggest benefits of the update is that users no longer need to share their full Aadhaar card.
Now, only limited and necessary information can be shared for verification.
This means hotels, banks, or other services do not need your full Aadhaar number, address, or other sensitive details.
By limiting data sharing, the risk of identity theft and fraud is greatly reduced.
This step also strengthens trust in digital services, especially as online transactions continue to grow across the country.
Secure QR Code Makes Verification Safer
The most important new feature in the mAadhaar app is the secure QR code.
This QR code contains only essential information, not full Aadhaar details.
It includes the user’s name, photo, date of birth, gender, address, last four digits of the Aadhaar number, and masked mobile number and email ID.
The QR code can be scanned for instant verification, removing the need to submit Aadhaar photocopies.
Since the QR code is digitally verified by UIDAI, it is both safe and reliable.
Track Where Your Aadhaar Is Used
UIDAI has also added an Authentication History feature to the app.
This allows users to check when and where their Aadhaar was used for verification.
If any suspicious or unknown activity appears in the history, users can immediately report it through the UIDAI portal or helpline.
This adds transparency and helps users act quickly in case of misuse.
A Big Step Towards Digital Privacy
These updates come at a time when digital services are expanding rapidly in India.
Limited data sharing and better tracking tools will make Aadhaar usage more secure and reduce fraud.
For users who were worried about Aadhaar misuse, this update offers much-needed relief and greater peace of mind.
How to Use the New Features
To access these features, users should download or update the mAadhaar app on their smartphone.
Log in using the registered mobile number and link Aadhaar to the app.
After that, go to the “My Aadhaar” section to use options like the secure QR code and authentication history.
With just a few steps, users can significantly improve the safety of their Aadhaar data.
This move clearly shows UIDAI’s focus on protecting citizen privacy in the digital age.
