LPG Connection may be Disconnected (Follow New Government Rule)

Rising tensions in West Asia have started affecting global oil and gas supply, including India.

With imports from the Middle East slowing down, fuel prices are increasing and panic buying has been reported in several places.

To manage the situation, the Indian government has introduced stricter rules for LPG booking and distribution, which will come into effect from May 1 across the country.

New LPG Rules: Focus on Double Connections

The biggest change targets households that have more than one cooking gas option.

According to the new rules, if a home already has a Piped Natural Gas connection nearby, they may be required to surrender their LPG cylinder connection.

Failing to comply could lead to suspension of gas supply from oil companies.

The aim is to stop duplicate connections and ensure fair use of subsidized LPG cylinders.

In addition, customers will need to complete mandatory KYC verification. Without proper KYC, cylinder refills may not be allowed.

Mandatory KYC and OTP Verification

The government has made Aadhaar-based e-KYC compulsory for all LPG users.

If your KYC is incomplete, you may not receive cylinder deliveries until it is updated.

However, those who have already completed verification do not need to repeat the process.

Another major change is OTP-based delivery verification.

Now, when a cylinder is delivered, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number.

The delivery will only be completed after the OTP is verified.

Oil companies are also increasing the gap between bookings to prevent hoarding and misuse of subsidized cylinders.

Impact on Users and What You Should Do

Consumers who have not updated their records are at the highest risk.

Even households that booked LPG refills before June 2025 may be treated as inactive if their details are not updated.

Such users will not be able to book new cylinders until e-KYC is completed.

Another key focus is identifying households with both LPG and PNG connections.

Authorities are linking databases to detect duplicate usage, and in some cases, users may lose eligibility for subsidized LPG refills.

Steps Consumers Should Take

To avoid disruption in gas supply, users should:

Complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC with their LPG distributor

Update their registered mobile number for OTP verification

Ensure Aadhaar is linked with bank accounts for subsidy benefits

Close any duplicate or inactive LPG connections

Check whether their area has Piped Natural Gas availability

These steps will help ensure smooth LPG delivery under the new rules and prevent any interruption in service from May 1 onwards.
