Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has given an important relief to elderly people in the state. Earlier, pensioners were required to submit a life certificate every year.

If they failed to do so, their pension was stopped. Now, the Nitish Kumar government has clarified that pensions will not be withheld even if life certification is not completed due to any reason.

Pension Will Not Be Stopped Due to Technical Issues

Bihar’s Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni announced on Wednesday that the pension of elderly people, disabled persons, and widows will not be stopped if their life certification could not be done.

He clearly stated that no eligible beneficiary’s social security pension will be discontinued due to technical errors or other problems.

For those who are unable to visit a Common Service Center (CSC), life verification will be done at their homes. In addition, special verification camps will be organized at the Panchayat and Block levels to help beneficiaries.

6 Lakh New Pensioners Added After Increase

During a press conference held at the Information and Public Relations Department in Patna, the minister said that around 6 lakh new pensioners have been added since the pension amount was increased in June last year.

He emphasized that the Bihar government remains committed to the welfare of all sections of society. Social Welfare Department Secretary Bandana Preyashi and other senior officials were also present at the event.

How to Complete Life Certification

Beneficiaries can complete their life certification by visiting the nearest Common Service Center (CSC). They need to submit their Aadhaar card, bank passbook, and other required documents for biometric verification.

Currently, elderly people, disabled persons, and widows in Bihar receive a monthly pension of ₹1,100, which is directly transferred to their bank accounts through DBT.

This amount was increased by more than two and a half times before last year’s Assembly elections.

Life Certification Still Mandatory

Under the Social Security Pension Scheme, submitting a life certificate every year is mandatory. The deadline for existing beneficiaries is January 31.

Many people had not completed this process, raising concerns that their pensions might be stopped. However, the latest decision by the state government has provided major relief and reassurance to beneficiaries across Bihar.
