Today the installment of the Ladli Behna Yojana will be released. Along with this, the government has announced an important decision.
After Diwali, the amount given under the scheme will be increased from Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,500 per month.
Before starting the increased payment, the government will conduct an audit of the scheme list so that the names of ineligible beneficiaries can be removed.
Two-Stage Verification Process
Officials said the verification will be done in two stages:
First, the government will make a public appeal asking ineligible women to voluntarily remove their names.
Later, a departmental investigation will be carried out to identify and delete the remaining ineligible names.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya (on September 9) confirmed that complaints have been received about ineligible women being added to the list. The government will ensure that only truly eligible women continue to get benefits.
Announcement by Chief Minister
On June 19, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav had announced that Ladli sisters will get Rs 1,500 per month from Diwali.
The payment of the increased amount is likely to begin after Bhai Dooj.
History of the Scheme
At the start of the scheme, women were given Rs 1,000 per month.
On 27 August 2023, the BJP government raised it to Rs 1,250.
The government has promised to increase it further, step by step, up to Rs 3,000 per month.
The Biggest DBT Scheme
Currently, more than 1.26 crore women are enrolled under Ladli Behna Yojana.
The government spends about Rs 1,550 crore every month on it, making it the largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in the state.
Political Significance
Experts believe this scheme was a major reason for BJP’s big win in the 2023 assembly elections.
Due to its success, many other states in India have also launched similar schemes for women.
