Key Changes Effective From December 1

As December begins, several important changes have come into effect. Some of these changes may bring relief to the public, while others may lead to increased expenses.

From cheaper commercial gas cylinders to costlier aircraft fuel, here are the four major updates you should know about.

LPG Price Update

December has started with a small relief, especially for business owners. OMCs (Oil Marketing Companies) have reduced the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders by ₹10 from December 1.

These cylinders are commonly used in hotels, restaurants, and commercial kitchens.
Last month too, the commercial cylinder price was reduced by ₹5.

However, the price of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder, used in households, remains unchanged.

ATF Price Hike: Air Travel Likely to Get Costlier

According to Indian Oil’s website, the price of ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) has increased starting December 1. This may impact air ticket prices.

Here are the new ATF rates per kiloliter for domestic airlines (from December 1, 2025):

Delhi: ₹99,676.77 (increased by ₹5,133.75 from November)

Kolkata: ₹1,02,371.02

Mumbai: ₹93,281.04

Chennai: ₹1,03,301.80

Rising ATF prices could lead to higher airfares.

Banks to Remain Closed for 17 Days

In December, banks will remain closed for 17 days, including the second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.

However, these holidays vary by state, as per the RBI holiday list. So, not all banks across the country will be closed for 17 days.

Before visiting your bank, make sure to check if it is open on that day.

On December 1, only banks in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland are closed.

On December 25, banks across India will remain closed.

UPS Deadline Ends for Government Employees

Starting today, December 1, government employees no longer have the option to choose between the NPS and the UPS.

The deadline to opt for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) was earlier extended from September 30 to November 30, but it has not been extended further.
This means the opportunity to switch has now ended.
