JioHotstar, the rapidly growing video streaming platform, has surpassed 100 million paid subscribers.
This milestone follows the merger of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema, making JioHotstar one of the largest video streaming platforms in the country.
In terms of total programming hours, JioHotstar is now nearly four times bigger than international OTT giants like Netflix.
Last year, a joint venture between Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries (RIL) and Walt Disney led to the merger of RIL’s Viacom18 Media and Disney’s Star India, which paved the way for JioHotstar’s launch.
CEO Kiran Mani expressed excitement over the success, stating, “We believe that everyone should have access to world-class entertainment, and crossing the 100 million subscribers mark is proof of our vision.”
New Branding and Subscription Options
JioHotstar has also unveiled a new logo, marking a fresh phase for the platform.
Certain tariff plans from Reliance Jio offer free access to JioHotstar, meaning users can enjoy movies, shows, and live sports events without needing a paid subscription.
However, subscribers who opt for paid plans will enjoy an ad-free experience and access to high-resolution streaming.
Content Availability
JioHotstar provides a diverse range of content in 10 Indian languages, along with global content from major entertainment brands such as Disney, NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery HBO, and Paramount.
The platform also promises international premieres of various events.
New Features and Offers
A new section called Sparks has been introduced on JioHotstar, featuring popular digital content creators in different formats.
Additionally, Reliance Jio has rolled out a special offer for IPL fans. Existing and new Jio users can watch the Indian Premier League by recharging with a plan of Rs 299 or more.
Subscription Plans
For new subscribers, JioHotstar’s subscription plans start at Rs 149. Existing subscribers of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have been seamlessly migrated to the new platform.
With the inclusion of a wide range of content, new user-friendly features, and attractive subscription plans, JioHotstar is set to continue its success in India’s competitive OTT market.
