Jio has officially launched Voice over New Radio (VoNR) across India, making full use of its in-house 5G standalone (SA) core.
With this move, any compatible Jio 5G smartphone can now make ultra-clear voice calls without switching back to 4G or VoLTE.
What Is VoNR?
VoNR is the next generation of voice calling over 5G. Unlike traditional methods like VoLTE, VoNR keeps the call entirely within the 5G network, with no fallback to older networks. This means:
Faster call connection
Fewer call drops
Lower packet loss
Better battery life during calls due to more efficient network usage
Why the Nationwide Rollout Matters

With over 500 million users, Jio’s VoNR rollout is now the largest in India, marking a major shift in the country’s telecom landscape.
