Reliance Jio, the country’s largest telecom operator, is taking new steps to protect users from rising spam calls and online fraud.

Along with affordable recharge plans, Jio is now focusing on user safety by launching a new feature called CNAP, or Caller Name Presentation.

This move is part of a larger push by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which has directed major telecom companies to offer CNAP services to their customers.

What Is CNAP and How Does It Work?

CNAP stands for Caller Name Presentation.

This service shows the caller’s registered name on your mobile screen when you receive a call.

Unlike apps such as Truecaller, CNAP displays the name officially registered with the telecom company.

The information is verified using authentic documents, making it more reliable and harder to fake.

This helps users identify unknown callers and avoid potential fraud.

Where Is CNAP Available Right Now?

The service is being rolled out in phases across different telecom operators and circles.

Reliance Jio has already launched CNAP in several circles, including West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar, UP East, Rajasthan, Punjab, Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Airtel has started offering this feature in West Bengal, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has made the service live in Maharashtra, while it is being gradually rolled out in Tamil Nadu.

BSNL is currently testing CNAP as a pilot project in West Bengal.

More circles are expected to get this feature in the coming months.

Beware of Silent Calls

Along with CNAP, the Department of Telecommunications has warned users about a new scam method known as “silent calls.”

These are calls where no sound is heard after you answer.

According to the DoT, this is not a network problem but a tactic used by fraudsters.

Users are advised to immediately block such numbers and report them on the Sanchar Saathi portal.

This helps protect both individual users and others from falling victim to scams.
