Reliance Jio has stopped its basic plans of ₹209 and ₹249 that gave 1GB data daily. The ₹209 plan had 1GB daily data for 22 days, while the ₹249 plan offered 1GB daily for 28 days.
Now, Jio customers need to pay at least ₹299 for a monthly plan that provides 1.5GB daily data with 28 days validity.
For comparison, Airtel and Vodafone Idea also start their monthly plans at ₹299 but only offer 1GB daily data. Let’s look at the details.
Jio’s New Starting Monthly Plan
Jio’s ₹299 plan is valid for 28 days and offers 1.5GB data every day, totaling 42GB for the month. It includes unlimited voice calls and 100 free SMS daily.
Other benefits are free access to Jio apps and JioSaavn Pro subscription. After using up the high-speed data, internet speed drops to 64 Kbps.
Possible Tariff Hike in Next 6 Months
Telecom companies might increase prices between October 2025 and January 2026, says Ankit Jain from ICRA.
However, this hike is expected to be lower than last year, likely under 15-20%. Jain said, “The tariff hike is early but should be less than last year’s 19-21% increase.”
The average revenue per user may rise from ₹200 in FY 2025 to ₹220 in FY 2026.
Experts’ View on Price Changes
In 2024, Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea raised tariffs by about 19-21%, leading some users to switch to BSNL.
This time, operators may focus on raising prices without changing plan validity.
Reliance Jio hasn’t announced when the next price change will happen but said tariff revisions are needed to support investments in 5G technology.
