How the Current System Works
At present, passengers face strict rules:
Missed trains: No refund is provided, even if delays are caused by weather, emergencies, or train schedule changes.
Ticket cancellations: Passengers must pay a fee depending on the class and timing of cancellation, usually ranging from 25% to 50% of the fare, and in some cases, the entire fare is lost.
These rules often leave passengers paying a high price for changing their plans.
How the New Facility Will Work
With the new system, instead of canceling tickets and paying penalties, passengers will have the option to change their travel date:
Log in to the IRCTC website or app.
Select the booked ticket.
Choose a new travel date or a different train, if seats are available.
Pay only the fare difference, if any.
This ensures passengers don’t lose money and can adjust their travel plans conveniently.
