With Diwali just around the corner, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has issued an important warning for passengers planning to travel during the festive rush.
The alert cautions travelers against booking tickets through fake or personal user IDs, as it is completely illegal.
IRCTC has advised passengers to stay cautious and always book tickets through the official IRCTC website, app, or authorized agents to ensure safe and genuine bookings.
How to Check if Your Train Ticket is Real or Fake
During the festive season, train ticket scams often increase.
To make sure your ticket is genuine, always verify the PNR status on the official IRCTC website or mobile app.
A real ticket will show correct details instantly and include features like the IRCTC logo, watermark, and booking ID.
Fake tickets may have unclear printing, spelling mistakes, or wrong information.
You can also confirm your ticket details via SMS to 139 or through the RailYatri app.
If you find anything suspicious, report it immediately to the IRCTC helpline.
How to Identify Authorized Agents
IRCTC has shared simple ways to identify tickets booked through authorized agents.
If your ticket is genuine, the first page will clearly show the agent’s name, address, and a unique agency code.
However, if the ticket mentions “Normal User” on the top, it means it was booked using a personal ID, not through an official IRCTC agent.
Authorized agents also follow specific booking rules — they can’t book Tatkal tickets in the first 30 minutes of opening or Advance Reservation tickets in the first 10 minutes.
Anyone claiming otherwise is likely unauthorized.
Tips to Book Train Tickets Safely
Use official platforms: Always book from the IRCTC website or app.
Check authorization: If using an agent, verify they’re IRCTC-approved.
Verify details: Check for IRCTC watermark, logo, and booking ID.
Avoid unknown sites: Never share details on unofficial platforms.
Report fraud: Contact IRCTC helpline if you suspect a fake booking.
By following these simple steps, you can avoid scams and ensure a safe and hassle-free Diwali journey with Indian Railways.
