New Zealand has introduced a special visa for investors who want to grow their businesses and settle in the country permanently.
This visa is designed for wealthy and experienced investors who wish to live in New Zealand long-term by buying property, land, or a home.
It not only allows business expansion but also provides a direct path to permanent residency.
The Business Investor Work Visa
The new visa, called the Business Investor Work Visa, opened for applications on November 24th. It allows investors to live in New Zealand for four years, run a business, and bring their family along. The government expects this visa to create new business opportunities and boost the country’s economy.
Bringing Your Family Along
One of the biggest advantages is that investors can bring their spouse and children, making it easier to settle in New Zealand.
Investment Options for Residency
There are two ways for investors to gain residency:
NZD 1 million investment – Residency is granted after three years.
NZD 2 million investment (fast-track option) – Residency is granted after 12 months.
Both options require maintaining the business and investment for a specific period.
Who Can Apply?
This visa is meant for experienced business owners who can contribute to New Zealand’s economy. Key criteria include:
Under 55 years old
Strong business experience
Running a company with at least five employees or revenues of NZD 1 million
Investing in a business that is at least five years old and active
Additional NZD 500,000 for living expenses
Proof of ability to repay any loans
Maintaining a level of ownership
Creating at least one full-time job for a local citizen or resident
The government encourages entrepreneurs who can strengthen existing businesses and create new opportunities.
Path to Permanent Residency
After successfully running a business for a certain period, investors can apply for the Business Investor Resident Visa, which leads to permanent settlement in New Zealand.
New Seasonal Work Visas
In addition to the investor visa, New Zealand has introduced two seasonal work visas under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme:
Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV)
Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV)
These visas, effective from December 8, allow international workers to fill short-term roles while protecting jobs for local citizens.
