Instagram has introduced two major updates aimed at Indian users and creators.
First, AI-powered translations for Reels now support five more Indian languages.
Second, new Indian-language fonts are being added to Instagram’s editing tools, making it easier to create captions or on-screen text in regional scripts.
AI Translations in More Indian Languages
Previously, Instagram’s Meta AI translations worked for only a few languages.
Now, creators can translate their Reels into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi.
The update preserves the original voice quality, and creators can even use a lip-sync option, which adjusts mouth movements to match the translated audio.
This makes it look like the video was recorded in that language, opening up new opportunities for creators to reach a wider audience.
Indian Fonts for Captions and Overlays
Instagram is also adding Indian-language fonts to its editing toolkit.
Android users can soon access fonts in Devanagari, Bengali, and Assamese scripts.
These fonts can be used for captions, on-screen text, or overlays in languages like Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese.
If your phone’s language is set to one of these scripts, the fonts will appear automatically. Otherwise, you can filter and choose them manually.
This helps creators make content feel more local and authentic without extra effort.
With these updates, Instagram is clearly targeting India’s multilingual creator community.
AI translations with lip-sync help videos cross language barriers, while local fonts make captions feel native.
For creators, it’s easier to expand their reach, and for viewers, it means more content in languages they relate to.
