Infosys has revised its work-from-home (WFH) and hybrid work policy, signaling a shift toward a more structured office-focused model.
While some flexibility remains, the company is tightening rules for remote work as IT firms in India recalibrate workplace norms after the pandemic-era surge in WFH.
Key Changes: Attendance and Remote Work
Minimum Office Days: Employees must spend at least 10 days per month working from company offices.
WFH Limits: WFH exemptions are now capped at five days per quarter.
Any additional remote work requires manager approval and is reserved for special cases, such as medical needs.
Managerial Oversight: Automatic approvals for extended WFH days have been curtailed.
Employees must plan and seek pre-approval to comply with the new rules.
The aim is to ensure structured attendance while maintaining flexibility.
Why Infosys is Making the Shift
Industry experts note that unrestricted remote work can affect:
Collaboration across teams
Knowledge transfer within projects
Team cohesion and mentoring for junior staff
Infosys, like other Indian IT giants such as TCS and Wipro, emphasizes in-person interactions to boost collaboration, support training, and maintain a cohesive organizational culture.
Sustainability and Remote Work
The company has also introduced a monthly WFH survey to track household electricity usage, including appliance consumption and energy-saving practices.
Infosys says this helps estimate remote work’s environmental impact and improve sustainability reporting.
Employee Reactions
Reactions among staff are mixed:
Some employees appreciate the clarity and structure
Others are concerned about longer commutes and reduced flexibility
The policy reflects a broader industry trend toward balanced, measurable hybrid work models that align with business needs while retaining some flexibility for employees.
