Infosys Faces Backlash Over Employee Layoffs

According to NITES, Infosys has postponed its employee assessments due to increasing pressure from terminated employees and legal complaints filed by the organization.

Adv. Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES, called this decision a cover-up, stating:

“This sudden decision is nothing but a cover-up. Infosys never gave such liberty to the 700 employees it forcefully terminated on February 7. Those employees were thrown out in a single day without notice, severance, or even a place to stay for the night.”

The indefinite delay in assessments is seen as an attempt to avoid further controversy as Infosys struggles to justify its large-scale terminations.

“The IT industry thrives on young professionals’ hard work, yet they are discarded like liabilities. This must stop.”

Infosys, one of India’s top IT firms, is facing severe criticism over its alleged unfair treatment of new recruits.

Many affected employees, mostly from the 2022 engineering batch, had already experienced a two-year delay in onboarding before being abruptly fired without notice or compensation.

Reports from the Mysuru campus revealed shocking incidents:

1) Employees were removed with their packed suitcases.

2) Security guards and bouncers were deployed to prevent resistance.

3) Many were locked in meeting rooms and pressured to sign separation agreements.

4) Mobile phones were confiscated to stop them from recording the incident.

NITES condemned the layoffs as a clear violation of labor rights and urged the government to take immediate action.

Infosys’ Justification vs. Employee Allegations

Infosys claims that layoffs were based on internal assessments, with all recruits getting three chances to pass qualifying tests. However, terminated employees dispute this, alleging:

  • The assessment syllabus was changed midway.
  • Many were fired without prior communication.
  • Infosys pressured employees into signing “mutual separation” agreements to avoid legal responsibility.

NITES Calls for Government Intervention

NITES has officially filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, demanding:

1) An immediate investigation into Infosys’ layoffs.

2) A halt to further terminations.

3) Reinstatement of affected employees with compensation.

4) Legal action against Infosys for violating the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.

Saluja criticized the IT industry’s treatment of young professionals, stating:

“The IT industry thrives on young professionals’ hard work, yet they are discarded like liabilities. This must stop.”
