New Delhi:
In a groundbreaking move to alleviate the ever-growing traffic predicaments in major Indian cities, IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, has joined forces with Archer Aviation.
Archer Aviation is a leading American electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft manufacturer.
The collaboration aims to introduce electric air taxi services in India, providing a swift and efficient solution to the relentless congestion plaguing urban commuters.
Electric Air Taxis set for 2026
Anticipated to launch by 2026, the electric air taxi service promises to transform intra-city travel.
Commuters can expect to cover distances that typically take 2 to 3 hours in a mere 5 to 7 minutes, offering a game-changing alternative in major metropolitan areas such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
Archer Aviation unveils Electric Air Taxi
The recent Aero India show held in Bengaluru showcased Archer Aviation’s electric air taxi, marking a pivotal moment in the integration of air taxis in the Indian transportation landscape.
The two-seater electric air taxi boasts a range of up to 200 kilometers at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour and can accommodate up to two quintals of luggage.
Eco-Friendly Travel
Archer Aviation’s electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft are designed with environmental consciousness in mind.
With the ability to transport five individuals, including the pilot, for up to 160 kilometers, the air taxi serves as an eco-friendly solution for urban mobility.
Plans are in place to initiate the service with an initial fleet of 200 taxis,
catering to various needs such as charter, logistics, and medical emergencies.
Fare Insights: What to Expect
While the introduction of air taxis is poised to redefine urban transportation, the initial fare is estimated to be around Rs 30,000.
Although this may seem steep, there is optimism that as the service gains popularity and efficiency, fares will likely see a reduction in the future, making this innovative mode of transport more accessible to a broader audience.
