Great news for travelers! For the first time ever, direct flights between India and Cambodia are about to take off.
Indian airline IndiGo is all set to launch flights connecting Kolkata with Siem Reap, Cambodia’s famous cultural destination.
According to Cambodia’s Tourism Minister Huot Hak, these flights will begin Thursday onward, marking a major milestone in strengthening travel ties between the two nations.
Flight Schedule and Details
As per IndiGo’s press release, the airline will operate its Airbus A320 Neo aircraft on this route.
Flights will run three times a week — every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.
This new service is expected to make travel smoother for tourists heading to Siem Reap, home to the world-renowned Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws millions of visitors each year.
Cambodia’s New International Airport Boosts Tourism
The announcement of IndiGo’s new route comes shortly after Cambodia opened its brand-new Takeo International Airport (TIA) on October 20, inaugurated by Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Built at a cost of $2.3 billion, TIA replaces the old Phnom Penh International Airport and is now the largest and most modern airport in Cambodia.
With a 4-kilometer dual runway, it can handle long-haul international flights and is expected to become a key hub for both passengers and cargo.
Prime Minister Hun Manet described the new airport as a “catalyst for Cambodia’s economic and tourism development,” helping attract more global investors and tourists.
The project began in 2020, with construction led by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation, and was financed by the Cambodia Airport Investment Company Limited.
The airport covers 2,600 hectares across the Kandal and Takeo provinces, about 20 km from Phnom Penh.
