IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, will soon offer a gender-neutral ‘Mx’ option for passengers during ticket booking.
This new feature is part of the airline’s broader efforts to promote inclusivity by not requiring passengers to specify if they are male or female.
Plans for Inclusivity and Employment
Sukhjeet S Pasricha, IndiGo’s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, announced that the ‘Mx’ option will be available at the time of booking.
This will allow transgender passengers to choose an option that aligns with their identity without disclosing it.
Currently, the booking process on IndiGo’s website only includes ‘Male’ and ‘Female’ options.
IndiGo also aims to double the number of disabled employees within the company. With a 62 percent share in the domestic market, IndiGo is setting a strong example in inclusivity.
Other Airlines Offering Gender-Neutral Options
Air India Express and Vistara already provide the ‘Mx’ option during ticket booking, reflecting a growing trend towards accommodating diverse passenger identities.
Support for the LGBTQ+ Community
Pasricha highlighted that IndiGo has implemented several initiatives to support the LGBTQ+ community, including special recruitment programs.
LGBTQ+ individuals are continuously being hired and are working in various roles, including as pilots, within the airline.
