There’s good news for air passengers planning to travel before Diwali. Following the instructions of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), airlines have increased the number of flights on several routes.
This move has reduced pressure on ticket demand, leading to cheaper fares on many routes. Although prices remain high in some cases, passengers booking tickets now are getting better rates than they did 10 days ago.
According to CNBC-Awaaz correspondent Rohan Singh, air travel has become easier this Diwali as the number of flights has increased and ticket prices have dropped.
The DGCA had directed airlines to operate additional flights to manage the festive rush, a decision supported by the Aviation Ministry to provide relief to passengers.
Airlines Add 1,700 Additional Flights
In response, major carriers like IndiGo and Air India have increased their operations. In total, 1,700 additional flights have been launched to handle the festive crowd.
Out of these, IndiGo has added 730 flights, while the Air India Group has introduced 486 flights, offering passengers more options and smoother travel.
Ticket Prices Become Cheaper
This step has brought significant relief to travelers, as the availability of more flights has led to lower airfares. Here’s how ticket prices have dropped compared to 10 days ago:
Delhi–Mumbai: from ₹7,000 to ₹5,000
Delhi–Ahmedabad: from ₹4,500 to ₹3,200
Delhi–Indore: from ₹5,000 to ₹4,600
Delhi–Kolkata: from ₹11,000 to ₹8,300
Mumbai–Delhi: from ₹13,000 to ₹8,400

The Aviation Ministry’s decision to add more flights has helped balance demand and supply, ensuring passengers can travel more comfortably and at affordable prices this festive season.
