India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is continuing its global growth.
The National Payments Corporation of India’s international arm, NIPL (NPCI International Payments Limited), has officially launched UPI services in Malaysia.
This means that Indians visiting Malaysia can now make payments directly through UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm — just as they do in India. They no longer need to exchange currency or carry foreign cash.
With this launch, UPI is now accepted in nine countries worldwide, allowing users to make payments for shopping, travel, and other services easily.
India–Malaysia UPI Deal
The new partnership for UPI payments in Malaysia is a result of a collaboration between NIPL and RazorpayCurly, a Malaysian payment gateway.
Through this integration, Indian users will be able to use UPI apps to pay merchants in Malaysia seamlessly.
All transactions will be processed through the RazorpayCurly platform, making cross-border payments faster and simpler.
Who Benefits from This Feature
Tourists from India visiting Malaysia will benefit the most, as they can pay for shopping, dining,
and other expenses directly in Indian apps without worrying about converting money to Malaysian Ringgit or paying high international card fees.
Malaysian businesses will also gain, as UPI payments will simplify transactions and encourage more spending by Indian travelers, saving time and cost for both parties.
Countries Where UPI Works
UPI is now active in nine countries:
France, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, and Qatar.
