Indian Railways is a popular choice for long-distance travel. To make the journey smoother for passengers, the Railway Department regularly updates its rules.
Recently, new guidelines have been issued for booking tickets under the emergency quota.
Now, passengers must apply for emergency quota seats one day before the train’s departure. A fixed deadline has also been set, and requests will not be accepted after that time.
The Ministry of Railways released these new rules on 22 July.
New Timings for Emergency Quota Requests
Passengers must now follow these new time slots when applying for emergency quota tickets:
For trains leaving between 10 AM and 1 PM, the request must be submitted by 12 noon a day before the journey.
For trains departing between 2:01 PM and 12:59 PM (next day), the request must be submitted by 4 PM a day before the journey.
Change in Reservation Chart Timing
Indian Railways has also changed the rule for preparing reservation charts. Earlier, the chart was prepared 4 hours before the train’s departure. Now, this time has been extended to 8 hours.
Because of this change, emergency quota booking times have also been adjusted. Railway officials believe this will give passengers more time to apply for emergency tickets.
Special Rules for Sundays and Holidays
For trains running on Sundays or public holidays, passengers must send emergency quota requests in advance.
These requests must be made during office hours on the last working day before the holiday.
This helps ensure the reservation chart is prepared on time and avoids any last-minute issues.
