Indian Railways is taking another step towards improving train operations.
The Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway has launched two new mobile apps that will help railway officials monitor train movements and delays in real time.
These apps are meant for railway controllers and operational staff, not passengers.
They are currently being tested as part of a pilot project and could be introduced across the division if the trial is successful.
Real-Time Train Updates on Mobile Phones
The new GPS-based apps will allow railway officials to track train movements directly on their mobile phones.
Until now, controllers had to rely on office computers and control rooms to monitor train operations.
With the new system, they can receive instant updates about train delays, delayed handovers between stations, and other operational issues from anywhere.
The Railway hopes that quicker access to information will help officials take faster decisions and improve overall train punctuality and safety.
Mobile Punctuality Monitoring Application
One of the new apps is called the Mobile Punctuality Monitoring Application.
Earlier, railway officials had to use the ICMS web portal, which required desktop access, OTP verification, and navigating through several screens before they could check a train’s status.
The new app simplifies the process by providing all important information in one place.
It offers real-time updates on train punctuality and instantly alerts controllers if there is a delay in handing over a train from one station to another.
The app also provides station-wise delay analysis, helping officials identify operational issues more quickly.
Late Train Monitoring System
The second app is called the Late Train Monitoring System.
It has been developed for train managers and controllers to digitally record train movements and operational observations.
Using GPS technology, the app automatically tracks train arrivals and departures, calculates stoppage times, and shares real-time information with the control office.
This is expected to improve coordination between railway officials and help ensure smoother train operations.
Pilot Project May Be Expanded
According to South Coast Railway officials, both apps are currently being tested under a pilot project.
If the results are positive, the system could be rolled out across the entire division.
Officials believe these digital tools will improve train punctuality, strengthen operational monitoring, support faster decision-making, and enhance railway safety.
