Ever booked a train ticket and then realized you can’t travel? Indian Railways has made things easier for passengers in such situations.

You no longer have to let a confirmed ticket go to waste — you can now transfer it to someone else who needs it.

Transfer Your Ticket to a Family Member

If you’re unable to travel, you can give your confirmed train ticket to a close family member.

The ticket can be transferred to your father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, or wife.

There’s just one important rule — you must make the request at least 24 hours before the train’s departure.

Once the request is accepted, your name on the ticket will be replaced with the family member’s name.

Keep in mind: this transfer can only be done once.

How to Transfer Your Confirmed Train Ticket

Follow these simple steps to complete the transfer process:

Take a printout of your confirmed ticket.

Visit the reservation counter at your nearest railway station.

Carry a valid ID proof (like Aadhaar or Voter ID) of the person you’re transferring the ticket to.

Request the ticket transfer over the counter.

That’s it! The ticket will then officially be issued in the other person’s name — a simple solution for when travel plans change.
