Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that India Post will soon introduce a guaranteed mail and parcel delivery service starting January 2026.
Under this new system, customers will get a delivery guarantee within 24 or 48 hours, ensuring that their parcels and letters reach their destination on time.
This major move is expected to create strong competition for private courier and parcel service companies.
Details of the New Services
According to the minister, the new service will upgrade the existing Speed Post network.
Mail will now be delivered within 24 hours, while parcels will reach recipients within 48 hours.
In addition, a “next-day parcel delivery” service will also be launched.
This means parcels that earlier took 3 to 5 days will now be delivered the very next day, significantly improving delivery speed and reliability.
Making India Post a Profit Center
Scindia also shared the government’s long-term vision for India Post. The goal is to transform it from a cost center into a profit center by 2029.
By offering faster, more reliable, and time-bound delivery, India Post aims to boost efficiency, attract more customers, and compete directly with private courier firms.
