On Wednesday, the Indian government announced that all flights owned and operated by Pakistan are banned from entering Indian airspace until May 23, 2025.

This move comes shortly after Pakistan closed its own airspace to all flights operated by Indian airlines.

India Issues Official Notice

India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to formally enforce the restriction.

Under this notice, no Pakistani aircraft will be allowed to fly through Indian airspace between April 30 and May 23.

This step is seen as part of a wider diplomatic and strategic response to growing tensions.

It is worth noting that 26 people were killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, many of whom were tourists.

The attack has heightened security concerns and strained relations between the two countries.

High-Level Security Meeting at PM Modi’s Residence

Following the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) held a meeting under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This was the second CCS meeting at the PM’s residence in just a few days. The committee discussed the current security situation and potential next steps.

Top ministers present at the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Decisions Taken in the First CCS Meeting

In an earlier CCS meeting, India had already announced several tough measures against Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. These included:

Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, an important agreement between the two countries.

Closure of the Attari border, a key land crossing point.

Cancellation of visas already issued to Pakistani citizens.

Blocking of several Pakistani YouTube channels and X (formerly Twitter) accounts.

Reduction in embassy staff, requiring some Pakistani diplomats to return home.

These actions are aimed at putting diplomatic and strategic pressure on Pakistan.
