Soon, you will be able to see the caller’s name along with their number on your mobile phone.
Telecom companies have successfully completed trials of this feature, and private operators are now fully prepared to implement it.
Aseem Manchanda shared that the testing of this new system by telecom companies has been successful, and they are ready to roll it out.
TRAI’s Recommendation to Curb Fraud
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended showing the caller’s name along with the number to help prevent fraud and improve security.
Acting on TRAI’s suggestion, the government had asked companies to begin trials in April. Now, the government wants telecom operators to implement this system without delay.
However, state-run telecom company BSNL has requested more time. BSNL has informed the government that it needs 3 to 4 more months to put this system in place.
A Step Toward Reducing Cyber Crime and Spam Calls
Telecom service providers also agree that this move will play a big role in reducing cyber crime across the country.
Additionally, it will help tackle the growing problem of spam calls. Spam calls have become a serious issue in India. According to one survey, 60% of users receive at least three spam calls a day.
No More Dependence on Third-Party Apps Like Truecaller
Until now, mobile users had to rely on apps like Truecaller to identify callers. But using such third-party apps comes with privacy risks.
These apps often request access to your contacts, messages, photos, and other personal data as soon as they are installed.
With this new system from telecom companies, you may no longer need such apps, and your data will be more secure.
