Weather conditions are set to change in parts of South India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that a new low-pressure area may form within the next 24 hours.

This system could bring heavy rainfall to several southern districts on February 21 and 22.

A yellow alert has already been issued in some areas.

What’s Causing the Weather Change?

According to IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over the equatorial Indian Ocean and the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Because of this system, another low-pressure area is likely to develop soon.

It is expected to move westward and northwestward, influencing weather conditions across parts of Tamil Nadu and nearby regions.

On February 20, light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

Weather conditions may intensify on February 21.

IMD has predicted moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour in some areas.

Heavy rainfall is likely in districts such as:

Kanyakumari

Tirunelveli

Thoothukudi

Tenkasi

Virudhunagar

Theni

These districts are under a yellow alert.

On February 22, heavy rain may also affect Dindigul, Madurai, and Theni.

The yellow alert will continue in these regions.

What About Chennai and North Tamil Nadu?

Northern parts of Tamil Nadu may see light fog or haze during the mornings of February 20 and 21.

In Chennai and nearby areas, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy.

No major rainfall is predicted for the city.

However, light morning haze or fog may occur.

Residents in affected districts are advised to stay alert and follow updates from the weather department as conditions develop.
