April is bringing stormy weather to North India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
Cloudy skies, hailstorms, and strong winds have already been recorded in the NCR, thanks to an active western disturbance.
This sudden change in weather is causing concern for both residents and farmers.
State-Wise Weather Forecast
Delhi-NCR (April 5-8): The region will see partly cloudy skies with rain or thunderstorms returning on April 7-8.
Temperatures are expected to reach 32-33°C.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel as strong winds and lightning may occur.
Uttar Pradesh & Bihar (April 5-8): Heavy rain alerts have been issued for major cities including Lucknow, Kanpur, Saharanpur, Patna, Gaya, and Aurangabad.
Farmers may face losses due to crop damage.
Rajasthan (April 5-7): Thunderstorms and strong winds of 40-50 km/h are expected in cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer.
Hailstorms may occur in some areas.
A powerful western disturbance is likely to bring more rain from April 7.
Himachal Pradesh (April 5-7): Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected in plains and hill districts such as Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, and Mandi.
Snowfall may occur in higher elevations, along with strong winds and hail in some areas.
Jammu & Kashmir (April 5-15): Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are expected in higher reaches.
Flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging are possible in vulnerable areas.
The weather will clear between April 12-15.
West Bengal (April 5 onwards): Thunderstorms are expected in North Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar.
Temperatures will drop by 3-4°C in South Bengal. Low-lying areas may face waterlogging and floods.
Madhya Pradesh (April 5): Heavy rain is likely in Bhopal, Satna, Katni, Damoh, and Chhatarpur, with winds up to 30 km/h.
Haryana & Punjab (April 4-6): Rain and strong winds of up to 60 km/h are expected in cities including Yamuna Nagar, Ambala, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Patiala. Lightning may also occur.
Uttarakhand (April 5-7): Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and winds of 30-50 km/h is forecast across the state.
Heavy rain warnings are in place for Nainital, Chamoli, Almora, and Rudraprayag.
