Severe cold weather has tightened its grip on many parts of northern and western India.

Dense fog, icy winds, and falling temperatures are making daily life difficult.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh alerts, warning of cold waves, dense fog, and even rain and snowfall in some regions.

Here is a simple and clear breakdown of what to expect.

Cold Wave and Dense Fog Across North India

According to the IMD, a western disturbance is active, increasing the chances of cold wave conditions in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh over the next one to two days.

Dense fog is likely to continue during mornings and nights in northwest India and Bihar for the next five days.

Cold day conditions may persist in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next two days.

Relief from the cold is expected gradually after this period.

Rain and Snowfall Warning in Hill States

The Meteorological Department has predicted light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Isolated rainfall is also expected in Punjab on January 18, 19, and 22.

Haryana and Chandigarh may receive light rain on January 19 and 22, while western Uttar Pradesh could see rainfall on January 22.

These weather changes may further lower temperatures in nearby regions.

Delhi Weather Update: Temporary Relief Before Cold Returns

Delhi saw slight relief from the cold wave after four days, with minimum temperatures staying above 4 degrees Celsius.

A yellow alert for fog has been issued, especially for morning hours.

From January 18 to 20, the sky will remain partly cloudy with moderate fog.

Day temperatures may range between 21 and 24 degrees, while nights may stay between 7 and 10 degrees.

Cold conditions are expected to intensify again from January 21, with temperatures likely to fall further.

What’s the Situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar?

Uttar Pradesh is facing harsh cold due to strong icy winds.

While bright sunshine may offer some relief during the day, dense fog is expected in the mornings

The IMD predicts a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 4 to 6 degrees over the next few days.

In Bihar, the weather has become milder due to sunshine.

Cold conditions will still be felt during mornings and evenings.

The IMD has forecast dry weather for the next seven days, with no cold wave warning currently in place.

Jammu and Kashmir: Snow Likely in Higher Areas

Kashmir witnessed a slight rise in minimum temperatures on Friday, bringing some areas closer to seasonal averages.

A western disturbance is moving toward the region, and its impact has already begun.

Night temperatures remain below freezing in most parts, except Kokernag, where the minimum temperature stayed just above zero.
