The weather in India has started changing with the arrival of the pre-monsoon season. During the 2025 monsoon, the country experienced heavy rainfall, and even after the season ended, rain continued in several states.
Now, with the beginning of the 2026 pre-monsoon, rainfall activity has once again increased in many parts of the country. The pre-monsoon is expected to become stronger in the coming days.
Because of this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for March 28, 29, 30, and 31 in multiple states.
Northwest India: Heavy Rain and Storm Alert
Pre-monsoon activity will be strong in Northwest India. According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected in Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu
and Kashmir, and Ladakh on March 28 to 31.
Light rain may also occur in several areas during this time. In addition, there is a warning for:
Lightning
Dust storms
Strong winds with speeds between 30–60 km/h
Thunderstorms and gusty winds of around 30–50 km/h are also likely during this period.
South India: Rain and Strong Winds Expected
Pre-monsoon activity will also affect South India. Heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Mahe, Karaikal, and Yanam between March 28 and 31.

West India: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Dust Storms
Western India will also see active pre-monsoon conditions. The IMD has predicted heavy rain in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, and Gujarat from March 28 to 31.

Pre-monsoon weather will also be visible in Northeast India. Heavy rainfall is expected in Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, and Nagaland.
