IMD Forecast: Rain and Snowfall alert for Several States

The weather in India is set to change soon. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a new western disturbance will be active from February 25. This will bring rain and snowfall to several states.

Rain and Snowfall Alert in North India

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience heavy rain and snowfall.

Light to moderate rain is also expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The effects of this weather system will also be seen in Northeast and South India. Assam, Meghalaya,

and Arunachal Pradesh may receive rain, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala could experience showers as well.

Due to this change, temperatures may drop in many places, leading to an increase in cold conditions. Weather experts have advised people to remain cautious as sudden weather changes may occur.

Temperature Fluctuations and Weather Forecast

The western disturbance will have the greatest impact on the hilly states of North India:

Jammu and Kashmir: Heavy rain and snowfall expected between February 25 and 28.

Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall and rain likely between February 26 and 28.

Uttarakhand: Heavy rain and snowfall on February 27 and 28.

In the plains, light to moderate rain is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan between February 26 and 28.

Temperature Changes

1) In northwest India, temperatures may rise by up to 2 degrees Celsius over the next 24-48 hours but may then drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius.

2) In central India, temperatures will remain stable for 24 hours before increasing by 2-4 degrees.

Weather Changes in Northeast and South India

The IMD has also predicted changes in Northeast and South India:

Northeast India: Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh may experience thunderstorms, strong lightning, and hailstorms in some areas.

South India: Rain and thunderstorms are likely in Gujarat, Konkan-Goa, and coastal Karnataka.

Tamil Nadu and Kerala: Possibility of rain and thunderstorms.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands: A heavy rain alert has been issued.

Active Weather Systems in India

Several weather systems are currently active across the country:

Western Disturbance: Present over North Pakistan and North Iran, affecting North India.

Cyclonic Circulation: Active over East Assam, causing heavy rain in Northeast states.

Trough System: Extending from Gangetic West Bengal to South Chhattisgarh, leading to light to moderate rain in these areas.

Forecast for the Coming Days

1) Heavy rain and snowfall are expected in the Western Himalayan region from February 26 to March 1.

2) Light to moderate rain may occur in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from February 26 to March 1.

3) Western Uttar Pradesh may see light rain between February 27 and March 1.

4) North Rajasthan may experience light rain on February 27 and 28.

Today’s Weather Forecast

According to the IMD:

1) Andaman and Nicobar Islands will have light to moderate rain, with heavy rainfall in some areas.

2) Sikkim, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh may also see rain.

3) Light rain may occur in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and northwestern Rajasthan.
