India is expanding its UPI services globally, with agreements already in place with many countries.
Additionally, numerous other countries are prepared to launch UPI services within their borders.
As part of this effort, ICICI Bank has made it easier for Indians living abroad to access this service.
ICICI Bank’s NRI customers can now use their international mobile numbers for UPI payments within India.
Will be able to pay utility bill easily
On Monday, ICICI Bank announced that NRI customers can now conveniently pay utility bills such as electricity and water.
Additionally, they can also conduct merchant and e-commerce transactions.
NRI customers can use the International Bank Number from their NRE and NRO accounts with ICICI Bank for this.
The bank has launched this service on its mobile banking app, iMobile Pay. Previously, NRIs had to register their Indian mobile numbers for UPI payments.
This service started in 10 countries
The bank mentioned that they are leveraging the international infrastructure established by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch this service.
Initially, the service will be available in 10 countries: America, Britain, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
With this,
NRI customers of the bank can now send money to their bank accounts using UPI ID or mobile number by scanning any Indian QR code.
Service will run with the help of NPCI
Siddharth Mishra, the Digital Channel and Partnership Head of the bank, expressed excitement about launching this facility in partnership with NPCI.
Indians residing in these 10 countries will no longer need to register an Indian mobile number in their account.
Here’s how NRI customers can activate the UPI facility:
1) Log in to the iMobile Pay app. Click on ‘UPI Payments’. Verify your mobile number. Click on ‘Manage’, then go to ‘My Profile’.
2) Create a new UPI ID (choose from the suggested options).
3) Select your account number, then click ‘Submit’.
