HP India to Start Manufacturing Laptops and PCs Locally in May

HP India will begin manufacturing its laptops, PCs, and all-in-one systems in India starting in May, through a partnership with Dixon Technologies.

The company aims to nearly double its production capacity compared to last year, according to Ipsita Dasgupta, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of HP India.

Dasgupta stated in an interview with Moneycontrol that the target is to significantly increase production, even without the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

HP India is one of the 27 beneficiaries under the Rs 17,000 crore IT hardware PLI scheme, which was introduced in 2023.

When asked about potential concerns related to the import management system for laptops, PCs, and tablets, Dasgupta expressed confidence in HP’s operations in India, emphasizing that consumers in India benefit from the company’s presence.

When asked if HP considers India as part of its “China+1” diversification strategy, Dasgupta clarified that HP’s strategy for India remains consistent with its prior approach, even before the tariff changes.

HP’s goal is to partner with India in its efforts to become a key player in the global value supply chain, with plans to continually increase local manufacturing year after year.

Manufacturing Roadmap and Local Value Addition

Dasgupta also highlighted HP’s focus on increasing local value addition as part of its manufacturing roadmap.

Although she did not confirm whether HP would apply for the newly announced Rs 23,000 crore component PLI scheme, she noted that the company is working to expand its local manufacturing footprint.

Additionally, she mentioned strong growth in HP’s commercial business and an emerging uptick in consumer demand across its product segments.
