The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new Aadhaar app that allows users to carry their Aadhaar card securely on their smartphones.
The app is free to download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
This digital upgrade aims to make identity verification faster, safer, and more private—without needing a physical card.
Key Features: Privacy, Control, and Convenience
The new app comes with several advanced features designed to give users control and security:
Multi-profile Management: Add and manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device if they share the same registered mobile number—perfect for families.
Biometric Security Lock: Access your Aadhaar only with your biometric authentication, preventing unauthorized use.
Selective Data Sharing: Share only the information you want, such as name and photo, while keeping sensitive details like address or date of birth hidden.
QR Code Verification: Instantly verify Aadhaar details using QR codes at banks, government offices, and other service centers.
Offline Access: View your Aadhaar details even without an internet connection after verification.
Usage History Monitoring: Track when and where your Aadhaar is used for added transparency and trust.
How to Download and Set Up the Aadhaar App
Download the official “Aadhaar” app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and choose your preferred language.
Verify your identity using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Complete face authentication to confirm ownership.
Create a six-digit security PIN for extra protection.
Once set up, users can access or share Aadhaar details securely using biometric authentication or PIN access.
New Aadhaar App vs mAadhaar App
Both apps serve Aadhaar users but in different ways:
New Aadhaar App: Designed for everyday ID use—showing, sharing, or managing digital Aadhaar cards.
mAadhaar App: Focused on document management—downloading e-Aadhaar PDFs, ordering physical cards, and updating contact info.
Together, these apps provide a complete digital identity ecosystem, making Aadhaar more accessible and secure for everyone.
