How meta AI can automatically translate your Instagram reels

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has expanded its AI-powered translation feature to include Hindi and Portuguese.

Launched in August 2025, this tool can now automatically translate Reels into different languages without any extra settings.

A Big Boost for Content Creators

Meta says this feature is a game-changer for creators aiming to reach a wider audience.

The tool keeps your voice’s sound and tone intact, and lip-syncing is so precise that your mouth movements match the translated audio.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri demonstrated the feature, showing videos in Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.

He said, “Most videos on Instagram are in languages you don’t understand, but that doesn’t mean you’re not interested in them.”

This feature is available for all public Instagram accounts and Facebook creators with more than 1,000 followers.

Creators can turn it on or off, or review and delete translated Reels if they wish.

Control for Viewers and Creators

Unlike YouTube’s auto-dubbing, Meta’s tool gives viewers control too.

Users can choose to watch the Reel in their own language or the original language.

Simply go to the three-dot menu on a Reel and select “Don’t Translate” under Audio and Language Settings.

When uploading a Reel, creators will now see a “Translate your voice with Meta AI” option.

Activating this enables lip-syncing with translation, making Reels accessible in multiple languages while keeping them natural.

Creators can also track performance by seeing the number of views for each language, helping them understand which audiences are engaging the most.

Meta notes that the feature works best for face-to-camera videos where the speaker’s face and lips are clearly visible.
