HDFC Bank Credit Card: If you use a credit card from HDFC Bank, there’s important news for you. From July 1, 2025, the bank is changing its rules on charges and reward points for certain types of transactions.
These changes will apply to payments related to online gaming, wallet loading, utility bills, rent, fuel, and education. Let’s take a look at the updated charges and how they will affect your reward points.
1. Charges on Online Skill-Based Gaming
If you spend more than Rs 10,000 in a month on gaming platforms like Dream11, MPL, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, a 1% charge will be applied.
Maximum charge: Rs 4,999 per month
Reward Points: No reward points will be given on these gaming transactions.
2. Charges on Wallet Loading
If you load over Rs 10,000 in a month to third-party wallets like PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge, Ola Money using your credit card, a 1% charge will be applied.
Maximum charge: Rs 4,999 per month
3. Extra Charges on Utility Bill Payments
For consumer cards, if your utility bill payments exceed Rs 50,000 in a month, a 1% charge will be applied.
For business cards, the limit is Rs 75,000.
Maximum monthly charge: Rs 4,999
Insurance payments: No extra charges will be applied.
4. Charges on Rent, Fuel, and Education Transactions
Rent Payments: A 1% charge will continue, with a maximum of Rs 4,999.
Fuel Payments: A 1% charge will be applied only when spending exceeds Rs 15,000 or Rs 30,000.
Education Payments:
1% charge if payment is made through third-party apps.
No charge if payment is made via the school/college website or POS machine.
5. Reward Point Changes on Insurance Payments
You will still get reward points on insurance payments, but with a limit.
This reward point cap remains the same for cards like Millennia, UPI, Swiggy, Paytm, and Bharat.
For the Marriott Bonvoy card, there is no limit on reward points for insurance payments.

HDFC credit card users are advised to plan their spending carefully before July 1, 2025. Be aware of the new charges and updated reward rules to avoid extra fees and make the most of your reward points.
