HDFC Bank has announced good news for its millions of customers. The bank has increased the interest rates on some of its Fixed Deposit (FD) schemes, giving relief to investors.

The bank has raised the interest rate by 10 basis points (0.10%) for a specific tenure of more than three years. The new FD interest rates came into effect on March 6, 2026, and this change applies to FDs of less than ₹3 crore.

Interest Rate Increased for This FD Tenure

The bank has increased the interest rate on FDs with a tenure of 3 years 1 day to less than 4 years 7 months.

Earlier, general customers received 6.40% interest, which has now been increased to 6.50%.

For senior citizens, the interest rate has increased from 6.90% to 7%.

It is worth noting that in December 2025, the bank had reduced FD interest rates for some tenures. Now, by increasing the rate for this specific period, the bank has provided some relief to new investors.

Current FD Interest Rates

Under the revised structure, HDFC Bank now offers:

2.75% to 6.50% interest for general customers

3.25% to 7% interest for senior citizens

These interest rates apply to FDs with tenures ranging from 7 days to 10 years.

Interest Rates for Different Tenures

Interest rates are generally lower for short-term FDs.

FDs with 7–14 days and 15–29 days offer 2.75% interest for general customers and 3.25% for senior citizens.

FDs with 6 to 9 months tenure offer 5.50% interest, while senior citizens get 6%.

1-year FDs provide about 6.25% interest for general customers and 6.75% for senior citizens.

Interest Rates on Long-Term FDs

Long-term FDs usually offer slightly higher returns.

FDs with 18 months to 2 years tenure offer around 6.45% interest for general customers and 6.95% for senior citizens.

FDs with 5 years to 10 years offer 6.15% interest for general customers and 6.65% for senior citizens.

Things to Consider Before Investing in an FD

Fixed deposits are considered a safe investment option because they provide fixed interest rates and involve low risk. However, investors should compare FD interest rates offered by different banks before making a decision.

It is also important to choose an FD tenure that matches your financial goals and investment needs.
