The government has extended the last date for filing appeals before the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).
Taxpayers can now submit their appeals until July 31, 2026, giving them one more month to complete the process.
The extension was announced through an official statement.
At the same time, the government has advised taxpayers not to wait until the final day and to file their appeals well before the new deadline to avoid any last-minute issues.
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
According to the government, the decision was taken after receiving requests from various stakeholders.
Many taxpayers reported technical problems on the GSTAT portal because of the sharp rise in the number of appeal filings in recent days.
To reduce the pressure on the portal and give taxpayers enough time, the deadline has now been extended to July 31, 2026.
Earlier Deadline and Filing Rush
The government had earlier notified June 30, 2026, as the last date for filing GSTAT appeals through a notification issued on September 17, 2025.
However, the final days saw a massive rush. Around 30,000 appeals were filed in just the last 15 days, with daily filings touching nearly 5,500 appeals at their peak.
This heavy traffic led to technical difficulties, prompting the government to extend the deadline.
Taxpayers are encouraged to complete the filing process as early as possible instead of waiting until the last date, helping avoid portal congestion and any unexpected technical issues.
