India’s oil marketing companies have asked LPG distributors to limit the supply of commercial gas cylinders.

For now, commercial LPG will be supplied only to hospitals and educational institutions.

This means restaurants, hotels, and many other commercial establishments will temporarily stop receiving non-domestic LPG cylinders.

The directive was issued after instructions from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas as the government tries to manage limited LPG supplies across the country.

Rising West Asia Tensions Affect LPG Supply

The restrictions come at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia are affecting global energy supply chains.

India imports a large portion of its LPG from countries in the Middle East.

When conflicts disrupt shipping routes or production in this region, fuel supplies to India can be affected.

Because of these uncertainties, authorities have taken precautionary steps to ensure that domestic LPG supply remains stable.

Restaurants and Hotels Feel the Impact

The new restriction has raised concerns in the hospitality sector.

Restaurants and hotels depend heavily on commercial LPG cylinders for cooking.

the supply suddenly restricted, many businesses are finding it difficult to run their kitchens normally.

Industry groups say that if the shortage continues, some restaurants may have to reduce operations or temporarily shut down kitchens, especially in big cities where commercial LPG demand is very high.

Domestic LPG Supply Gets Top Priority

The government’s main goal during this situation is to protect household cooking gas supply.

Officials have asked refineries to increase LPG production from propane and butane streams so that more cylinders are available for domestic consumers.

Authorities have also increased the booking interval for household LPG cylinders from 21 days to 25 days. This step is meant to prevent panic buying and ensure fair distribution.

A Temporary Step to Stabilise Supply

Government officials say these restrictions are temporary emergency measures to manage the supply chain during a period of global uncertainty.

Essential services such as hospitals and educational institutions have been given priority so that their operations continue without interruption.

If the global situation improves and LPG imports become stable again, commercial LPG supply to businesses is expected to gradually return to normal.
