If you use a cooking gas cylinder at home, this update is very important for you. Government-owned gas companies like Indian Oil Corporation (Indane), Bharat Petroleum (Bharat Gas),
and Hindustan Petroleum (HP Gas) have started taking strict action under the new “No Dual Gas Connection” rule.
Under this rule, households that already have a PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connection may no longer be allowed to keep an LPG cylinder connection at the same address.
If a home is using both PNG and LPG, the LPG connection could be suspended from June.
The government says this move is aimed at stopping gas black marketing and encouraging safer fuel use.
What Is the ‘No Dual Connection’ Rule?
In recent years, PNG connections have expanded quickly across many cities and residential areas in India. PNG is considered safer, cheaper, and more convenient compared to traditional LPG cylinders.
However, authorities found that many families installed PNG connections but continued keeping LPG cylinders as backup.
According to government rules, having two domestic cooking gas connections at the same address is not allowed.
Because of this, gas companies have started identifying such customers. People using both PNG and LPG are now being asked to surrender one connection before June. If they fail to do so, their LPG connection may be blocked.
How to Surrender Your LPG Cylinder Connection
If your home currently has both PNG and LPG, you should complete the surrender process soon to avoid problems later.
For this, visit your nearest Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas agency. There, you will need to fill out a “connection surrender” form.
After submitting the form, you must return your gas cylinder and regulator, whether the cylinder is empty or full. Once the process is completed, the agency will issue a surrender certificate.
The security deposit paid during the original connection setup will also be refunded to your bank account.
After this, you can continue using only PNG without worrying about penalties or suspension.
Why More People Are Switching to PNG
PNG is becoming popular because it removes many of the common problems linked with LPG cylinders.
With PNG:
There is no need to book gas refills
You do not have to worry about cylinders running out suddenly
Gas is supplied directly through pipelines
Bills are generated monthly based on actual usage, similar to electricity bills
Many users also find PNG safer and easier to manage in daily life.
How to Apply for a PNG Connection
If pipeline gas service is already available in your area, applying for a PNG connection is quite simple.
You need to visit the official website or mobile app of the gas company operating in your city, such as Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), or Adani Total Gas.
After selecting the “New Connection” option, fill in your details like:
Name
Address
Mobile number
Email ID
You will also need to upload documents such as:
Aadhaar Card
Address proof like electricity bill or property papers
Once the registration fee is paid, company staff will visit your home for inspection and install the PNG connection within a few days.
