Good news for drivers on national highways! The central government has made a major change to the toll system.

Now, you won’t have to pay double toll if you don’t have a FASTag, as long as you pay using a digital method like UPI or QR code.

This new rule will make highway travel more convenient, reduce public expenses, and help ease congestion at toll plazas.

Major Change in FASTag Rules

The Ministry of Road Transport has updated the FASTag Fee Structure Rules 2008.

According to the new rule:

Vehicles without a FASTag that pay using UPI, QR code, or other digital methods will only pay 1.25 times the toll.

Earlier, drivers without a FASTag had to pay double the toll, which was a heavy burden.

This change ensures that travelers can save money while still encouraging the use of digital payments.

Benefits of UPI and QR Code Payments

The new system brings two main advantages:

No double toll charges for non-FASTag users.

Digital payment options at all toll plazas, including UPI and QR codes.

This makes payments transparent, reduces the financial burden on drivers, and speeds up toll collection.

Cash Payments Still Face Double Toll

The government has made it clear that cash payments will still incur double toll charges.

The goal is to reduce cash transactions and push more drivers towards digital payments, in line with the Digital India initiative.

Faster Travel and Shorter Queues

With digital payments, long queues at toll plazas are expected to decrease.

Drivers can pay directly by scanning a QR code, which saves time and improves traffic flow.

This system also helps make toll collection more efficient and transparent, benefiting everyone on the highways.
