Government launches Optional Health Insurance for CGHS Beneficiaries

The Central Government has announced a major update for CGHS beneficiaries.

A new optional health insurance scheme called Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima has been introduced for existing CGHS members.

This plan is meant to work alongside CGHS, not replace it.

Beneficiaries can continue using CGHS facilities and also opt for this insurance by paying a premium.

What Is Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima?

Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima is a health insurance policy launched by the Centre to expand medical coverage for government employees and pensioners under CGHS.

According to the Department of Financial Services, the plan offers cashless treatment, access to a large hospital network, and coverage for modern medical treatments across India.

Key Features of the New Insurance Plan

Complements existing CGHS benefits

Cashless treatment facility available

Access to a wide network of hospitals nationwide

Coverage for up to 6 family members under one policy

Room rent capped at 1% of sum insured per day

ICU charges capped at 2% of sum insured per day

30 days pre-hospitalization and 60 days post-hospitalization coverage

Coverage Amount and Treatment Benefits

The policy offers sum insured options of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh for in-patient hospitalization within India.

Co-payment options available: 70:30 or 50:50 between insurer and subscriber

AYUSH treatments covered up to 100% of the sum insured

Modern treatments covered up to 25% of the sum insured, with an option to extend to 100% through a rider

Cumulative bonus of 10% for every claim-free year, up to 100% of the sum insured

Compared to regular policies, premiums are lower with 28% and 42% discounts under the 70:30 and 50:50 co-payment options.

How to Buy the Policy

Paripoorna Mediclaim Ayush Bima will be available as a retail product exclusively for CGHS beneficiaries.

To keep it affordable, no GST will be charged on the premium.

The policy will soon be available for purchase through New India Assurance Company Limited, both at its offices and on its online platform.
