Trial production has commenced with Foxconn in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step towards commercial production.
Foxconn, renowned for manufacturing Apple devices, and Dixon’s subsidiary Padget Electronics will collaborate with Google for production.
Dixon Technologies will handle the base variant, while Foxconn will manufacture the Pro variant of the Pixel smartphones.
Commercial production is slated to begin in September, with initial exports targeted for European markets.
Google plans to expand into the US market once production stabilizes in India, leveraging the benefits of India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Sources indicate that due to low demand in India, Google intends to primarily export the manufactured devices.
The company is expected to make a formal announcement in the second half of the year, reaffirming its commitment to local manufacturing in India.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has confirmed the collaboration, highlighting Foxconn’s existing infrastructure in the state where it already assembles iPhones for Apple.
