Google has introduced Flex by Google Pay, a new digital credit option aimed at making everyday credit simpler and more accessible in India.
This new feature works inside the Google Pay app and combines the ease of UPI payments with the benefits of a credit card.
The first offering under this initiative is the Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card, launched in partnership with Axis Bank.
It is built on the RuPay network and is fully digital, with no physical card required.
What Is Flex by Google Pay?
Flex is a UPI-based digital credit card that lives entirely within the Google Pay app.
Users can apply for it directly from the app, complete the process in just a few minutes, and start using it as soon as approval is granted.
Since it runs on the RuPay network, Flex can be used at almost all online platforms and local stores that accept RuPay or UPI payments.
Payments work just like regular UPI transactions, but the amount is credited instead of being deducted from your bank balance.
Google says this move aims to expand credit access in India, where the number of credit card users is still limited.
Key Features and Benefits
One of the biggest advantages of Flex is its fully digital experience.
There is no paperwork, no physical card, and no long approval wait.
Everything—from application to usage—is managed within the Google Pay app.
Flex also comes with a rewards program. Users earn “Stars” on transactions, where each Star is worth ₹1.
These Stars can be redeemed instantly during future payments, making everyday spending more rewarding.
Just like traditional credit cards, users can choose how they repay.
They can either pay the full amount or convert their bill into easy EMIs.
The app also offers useful controls such as setting spending limits, blocking or unblocking the card, and resetting the PIN anytime.
Availability and How to Apply
Flex by Google Pay is being rolled out in phases.
While the service has started launching, wider availability is expected in the coming months.
Interested users can join the waitlist directly through the Google Pay app.
Once access is granted, the entire application process can be completed within minutes.
With Flex, Google Pay is aiming to make digital credit as simple and widespread as UPI payments in India.
