Google’s annual developer event, Google I/O 2026, made one thing very clear — the company’s future is fully focused on Artificial Intelligence.

Instead of just smartphones and apps, Google is now shifting toward AI agents that can think, act, and complete tasks for users.

CEO Sundar Pichai announced major updates including Gemini 3.5 Flash, Gemini Omni, AI-powered Search, smart glasses,

and several new AI tools. Google also confirmed that most of its products will now become faster and smarter with AI integration.

AI Agents Are the New Future of Google

This year, Google moved beyond simple chatbots and introduced AI systems that can actually perform tasks on behalf of users. Search is no longer just about showing links — it can now complete actions and give direct solutions.

Apps like Gmail, Docs, and YouTube are also becoming AI-powered. Features like “Ask YouTube” and smart AI replies in Workspace apps show how deeply AI is being integrated into everyday tools.

Even new technologies like Android XR smart glasses and AI video tools were introduced, showing Google’s long-term vision for an AI-first ecosystem.

Gemini 3.5 Flash: Fastest AI Model Yet

One of the biggest announcements was Gemini 3.5 Flash. Google claims it is the fastest and most powerful AI model the company has ever built.

It is designed for coding, reasoning, and handling multiple types of data like text, images, and more. This model will power Google Search AI Mode, the Gemini app, and developer platforms, making responses quicker and more intelligent.

Gemini Omni: AI That Understands Everything

Google also introduced Gemini Omni, a powerful AI model that can understand and create content using text, images, and videos.

This means users don’t have to rely only on typing — they can simply share a photo or video, and the AI will respond intelligently. A lighter version called Gemini Omni Flash is already rolling out, with a more advanced Pro version expected later.

Search, YouTube, Gmail, and Docs Get Smarter

Google Search is undergoing a major transformation. The new AI Search interface can understand files, images, videos, and even browser tabs. Instead of just links, users now get direct answers and suggestions.

YouTube’s new Ask YouTube feature allows users to ask questions about specific parts of a video, making long content easier to understand.

Workspace apps are also upgraded. Gmail now supports smart replies and voice-based search, while Google Docs introduces voice-assisted editing.

A new AI assistant called Gemini Spark will help users with daily tasks across apps.

Smart Glasses and AI Shopping Experience

Google also revealed Android XR smart glasses, which grabbed a lot of attention. These glasses support live translation, voice commands, and AR features, potentially replacing some smartphone tasks in the future.

In shopping, Google introduced Universal Cart, an AI-powered system that helps users buy products from different platforms in one place.

It also suggests better deals and smarter choices, and works across Search, Gmail, YouTube, and Gemini.

Tools for Developers and Real-Time AI Features

For developers, Google launched new AI Studio tools and coding assistants. The company claims developers will soon be able to build Android apps using natural language commands, making development faster and easier.

Google also showcased real-time AI translation for calls and conversations. This feature can instantly translate speech during live interactions, removing language barriers.

Project Astra: A More Human-Like AI Assistant

One of the most advanced demos was Project Astra, an AI assistant that can understand what it sees through a camera and respond in real time.

It can recognize surroundings, answer questions instantly, and even remember context during conversations. Google aims to make it feel more like a real assistant that understands and interacts naturally with users.
