Google has finally launched the Emergency Live Video feature for Android smartphones. This feature was already available on iPhones and can be life-saving in serious situations.
It allows users in distress to stream live video so that rescue and emergency teams can clearly see what is happening. It can be especially helpful during road accidents, fires, or medical emergencies.
How the Feature Works
Users do not need to set up anything in advance. When someone makes an emergency call or sends an emergency message, responders may send a request asking to share live video.
Once the user accepts the request, they can start streaming the video with a single tap.
This gives rescue teams a clear view of the situation and helps them understand what kind of assistance is needed. According to Google, visual information can make emergency response faster and more effective.
Supported Devices and Availability
The feature will work on Android devices running Android 8 or later. It is currently rolling out in the US, and in some regions of Germany and Mexico. It will reach more users in the future.
Pixel phones already offer an emergency video recording feature, but it works differently—it records up to 45 minutes of video and sends a link to emergency contacts. The new update adds the ability to share live video directly.
Already Available on iPhones
Apple has offered the Emergency SOS Live Video feature on iPhones for several years, allowing users to stream live video during emergencies.
Both Apple and Google have recently added multiple safety features to their devices, making it easier for users to get help quickly when needed.
