Google has introduced a completely new type of laptop called the Googlebook.
Announced on May 12, 2026, the device is built around Google’s Gemini AI and is designed to work differently from traditional laptops.
Unlike regular Windows laptops or Chromebooks, the Googlebook runs on Android, supports Google Play apps, and keeps the Chrome browser at the center of the experience.
Google says this is not just another laptop — it is an “intelligence system” designed to actively help users in their daily work.
What Makes Googlebook Different?
According to Google, the Googlebook combines the best features of Android and ChromeOS into one device.
Users will get access to Android apps from the Google Play Store while also enjoying a browser-focused experience powered by Chrome.
The company says the laptop is designed to work seamlessly with other Android devices, especially smartphones.
Google describes the Googlebook as a laptop that does more than simply run apps.
It is built to understand what users are doing and provide smart suggestions in real time using Gemini AI.
Magic Pointer: The Biggest New Feature
One of the most interesting features of the Googlebook is the “Magic Pointer.”
Developed with Google DeepMind, this AI-powered feature allows Gemini to assist users directly through the cursor.
When users move or point the cursor at something on the screen, Gemini instantly provides helpful suggestions.
For example:
Pointing at a date in an email may show an option to schedule a meeting
Selecting two images can create an instant preview of how they look together
Gemini can help complete tasks with fewer clicks
Google says the idea is to help users finish tasks faster and more easily.
Better Connection Between Phone and Laptop
Googlebook also focuses heavily on phone and laptop integration.
With a feature called “Quick Access,” users can open, search, and use files from their Android phone directly on the laptop without manually transferring them.
Users can also run Android apps from their phone on the laptop screen itself, making multitasking much easier.
Another new feature is “Create Your Widget,” which lets users create custom widgets simply by giving prompts to Gemini.
These widgets can pull information from apps like Gmail, Calendar, and even the internet to create a personalized dashboard.
Google Partnering With Major Laptop Brands
Google is working with several major laptop manufacturers to launch the first Googlebooks.
These include:
Acer
ASUS
Dell
HP
Lenovo
Every Googlebook device will also feature a unique “glowbar” design element, which Google says is both stylish and functional.
The company has not yet announced the pricing or launch date for these laptops, but the announcement has already generated strong interest among tech users.
